The state of Texas requires a minimum of $30,000/60,000 Limits of Bodily Injury liability coverage. Is that enough protection? Look at it this way. If you are involved in an accident and you injure someone, how long would $30,000 last if they are admitted to the hospital? Most likely less than a day. If you're at fault, you are responsible not only for the medical bills, but also for pain and suffering. We recommend coverage limits of at least $100,000/300,000 limits for Bodily injury. This gives you a lot more coverage and the cost to increase this amount, in most cases, is less than $10 per month.
Now let's talk about Property Damage. Once again, the state of Texas requires you to have a minimum of $25,000 in Property Damage. Is this enough coverage? When was the last time you went to buy a new car. It's hard to find a car for less than $25,000. The average cost of a car driving on the road today is more than $36,000. Now what happens if you are involved in a multi-car accident and it's your fault? Your not only are responsible for the car you hit, but all cars involved. The minimum coverage you should have is at least $100,000 and once again, the cost is very little, usually less than $7 per month.
Let's talk about Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage. In the state of Texas, 26% of motorists are uninsured and 38% of motorists carry the state minimum limits. This coverage protects YOU. If you are involved in an accident that is not your fault with one of these motorists, don't you want to cover yourself to the same limits you are covering the other driver. Raising this coverage to the same limits as your liability coverage is usually less than $5 per month.
The average cost to raise your coverage from $30,000/60,000/25,000 to $100,000/300,000/100,000 for most customers is less than $200 per year or $16.66 per month. This change only makes sense. Don't you agree?!
